What the check covers
What it does not cover
A background check says nothing about craft. That part we do ourselves, in the conversation and the references, and we get it wrong sometimes. If someone we let in doesn't hold up, we want to hear about it, and we take them out of the selection.
We don't check people we haven't decided on. The checks cost money, and we spend them on people we think our clients should meet.
We take 4.9%. The rest goes to your own company.
Agencies usually take between 15 and 25% of your rate. We take 4.9% for invoicing and processing through Payout Partner, also our company, across borders too. You set your own rate, and you negotiate the deal directly with the client. We publish a guideline ladder so nobody starts blind. If you want payment secured before you begin, we can hold it in escrow, included in the same 4.9%.
You can be paid out after tax for a further 4.9%. That is your choice, not the client's, and it comes out of your share; the client pays the same either way. With your own company it is just the first 4.9%.
About escrow, honestly: we are not a licensed financial institution, and money we hold does not sit in a protected client account. If we go bankrupt while holding it, it is lost. Escrow is an offer, not a guarantee. Only choose it if you are comfortable with that.
